SEVERAL women in Swindon have gone missing over the last few years One is Sally Ann John, 24, of Nythe, who disappeared in September 1995. A prostitute, she lived in Aylesbury Street and was last seen in the Manchester Road area on September 8. A woman matching her description was seen looking at train timetables at Swindon railway station early in the morning of September 9. Police interviews with close friends of Sally at the time revealed that she was keen to make a fresh start. Interviews were also carried out with all prostitutes in the red light district of the town, and pubs and nightclubs were checked. Appeals were also put out in towns where Sally worked, including Reading, Bournemouth, Bristol and Birmingham. Speaking in 1998, four years after her disappearance, Sally’s mum, Lesley, said: “We think about her every day. A lot has happened since she has been away.”
Sandra Brewin, of Peatmoor, disappeared from her parents’ home in 1994 aged 21. Her parents John and Nora believed their daughter’s problems began in June 1994 when she became penfriends with a man who was in prison in Oxfordshire.
Other missing person cases in the area where no body has ever been found include college worker Linda Razzell, 41, who disappeared from the town in 2002. Linda, a mum-of-four from Pentylands Close, disappeared on March 19, 2002. On that day, she is known to have parked her red Ford Escort in Alvescot Road, Old Walcot, after dropping her children at school.
Her husband, Glyn, was convicted of her killing but continues to protest his innocence.
The whereabouts of the young Vietnamese immigrant Thi Hai Nguyen, 20, have been unknown since she went missing from her temporary home in Swindon in June 2005. Locals assumed she had moved to London to seek work after arriving in the country in 2003. Across the border in Gloucestershire, the body of Kate Prout has never been found after she went missing from her farm in 2007. Her husband, Adrian, was found guilty of her murder last year.

Something Seriously Wrong With this I Feel.
A Violation.Or thats my opinion of it.
I'm Female yes, I definitely am, I would also say Im a very feminine (not feminist) type of female, anyway as any other female in the world will possibly tell you, our underwear and clothes are a very personal part of our lives, I mean really personal, we will only very rarely let even our sisters/best friends wear our under clothes especially. Therefore can you for a second try to imagine what it feels like for say your b/f to be found wearing your knickers, bras, dresses, nighties, you name it, it was worn. Could you begin to understand what that would mean to a Female, any Female.?
Well many years ago now I went out with a bloke, a big strapping 6ft 6inch built like a brick shit house bloke, myself I was about 8st and I'm 5ft 1inch, so you can I hope imagine what the differences in sizes were, humongous to put it mildly, well as time went on I would mislay items of my clothing and underwear, until one day I discovered that the person I had been seeing, 6/6 had been taking them, I would find them stuffed down behind chairs, settees, book cases all over the place, and all had been either destroyed or were almost beyond recognition.
I had words about this and told the person OK if he wanted to wear women's things fine, but leave mine alone, he didn't so I ended it with him, however I have to get it off my chest what his doing these things did to me, because I was effected badly in fact, at one point I stopped bothering to go out, or get myself dressed up. I truly felt like I had been raped Violated, I don't know if raped is the correct word to describe how I was left feeling for sure but raped is the word I would say closest describes it, it was an awful horrible feeling, I didn't want to wear my clothes anymore, and I ended up throwing the whole lot of them and getting new stuff.
I have in the past joked about this, but if I speak in total honesty about this it really did have a very deep and damaging effect on me, I didn't want to wear my own clothes any more especially not my under clothes, I no longer felt as if anything I owned was mine, I just felt dirty unclean even, as if I had done wrong not the person who did this to me, and looking back on it he himself didn't care less if I was bothered by what he had done.
When confronted about it I got the impression he didnt think it a big deal and that I was making a fuss about nothing.
Until recently I was still in contact with this person who would often go into stages of a psychosis, by psychosis I mean he took or takes illegal substances and at times he gets over paranoid and thinks the world is against him, (perhaps it is) it was during one of these psychosis stages that he sent me an offensive text message, which triggered off my memories of what he had done, I ended up telling him exactly what his actions had done to me how I felt and what it all resulted in, needless to say I don't ever expect to hear from him again, which also suits me fine.
I know and accept that there are many men out there who like to wear women's clothes, some just do so on odd occasions others do it on a regular basis, I wasn't against this person wanting to dress up in female attire, I just didn't want him touching anything of mine, he did and in doing so it kind of caused me to lose confidence in myself I believe. He invaded my personal private space, over stepped my boundaries, and that to me means he had no respect for me as a person or my personal belongings.
I'm adding this to this blog as part of my releasing it and letting it go not shoving it to the back of my mind like I had been doing.
The person in question has also never once attempted to offer an apology or to say sorrry for what he did.

Key points
- Soon after Sian was reported missing by her boyfriend, Kevin, officers became very concerned for her safety and welfare as this behaviour was completely out of character.
- As a result of CCTV and technical analysis of her mobile phone we established Sian left Suju nightclub in Swindon at 2:52am intending to go home. Her mobile phone was live and our technical means indicated that at least the phone and possibly Sian were within a 6 1/2 kilometre radius of a mobile phone mast in Savernake Forest.
- Through CCTV and other images officers were able to establish that a green Toyota Avensis had been seen near to Suju nightclub during the relevant time. From this we were able to identify the registration of the vehicle which led us to believe that Sian had been abducted and taken away in this vehicle. The investigation proceeded on the basis that Sian was still alive with the aim of finding her.
- Separate searches commenced in the Savernake area and to locate the vehicle and individual driving it.
- Late yesterday morning (Thursday) the vehicle was stopped and a man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap. He remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
- This man indicated two locations. One near Uffington in Oxfordshire where a body of a woman, believed to be Sian, was discovered. The body has since been recovered.
- A post-mortem examination is currently taking place.
- The second location is Eastleach, Gloucestershire, where we believe a second body may be. Searches are currently being conducted in this area which could take several days.
- Subsequently the man in custody was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and two murders. At this time, he has not been charged and remains in custody. An application to magistrates for a warrant of further detention may be made later today.
- With regard to the second body, we are concentrating our efforts on a historic case of one missing adult from Wiltshire.

- As part of the investigation into the death of Sian O’Callaghan, we searched a field in Eastleach in Gloucestershire where we discovered human remains.
- As a result of a positive hit on the National DNA Database, we have been able to identify those remains as Rebecca Godden-Edwards also known as Becky.
- It was Becky’s birthday yesterday and she would have been 29 years old.
- Becky’s family and loved ones are trying to come to terms with this devastating news and we are affording them all the support we can at this stage. I’m sure you will join me in extending your deepest sympathy to them at this very difficult time and will appreciate that they have asked that people respect their privacy to allow them to grieve in peace.
- Becky was from the Shaw area of Swindon. She was reported missing to the National Missing Persons helpline in 2007 after her family became concerned when they hadn’t had contact with her for some time.
- At this stage it is not clear how Becky came about her death but further work is on-going to help determine this.
- Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding Becky’s disappearance and subsequent death. Part of these enquiries will be to speak to Chris Halliwell and we will then make a decision on any appropriate steps to take.
- All outstanding lines of enquiry will be followed up including forensic results and information on Christopher Halliwell’s background.
- Becky and Sian O’Callaghan did not know each other.
- I am making a direct appeal to anyone who knew Becky from 2002 onwards and may have information that could help my investigation to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000. People can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if they wish. I’m interested in Becky’s movements, friends and lifestyle. Any information we receive will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Some basic measures you can take to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of crime include:
- Always make sure someone knows where you are going and what time you will be home.
- Stick with friends when you are out and about.
- Try not to walk alone.
- When walking with friends, stick to well lit, busy areas and never be tempted to take short cuts through quiet or unlit areas.

Rebecca was described as Becky Godden in the press conference and briefing. However, her family would prefer it if she is referred to as Becky Godden-Edwards, as had she been alive today she would have taken on the Edwards name.
